The voice and refreshing enthusiasm of talented Charlie XCX ricocheted across a lucky crowd on Friday, Aug. 1 at Lollapalooza 2015: Just one week before she’ll arrive on the Cain’s Ballroom stage. And, if her performance on the Lollapalooza stage hints at the kind of show we can expect in Tulsa, fans should be in for a treat. “You’ve got to have some serious rock star chops to jam on a gigantic, inflatable guitar and not look like an idiot,” Piet Levy of the Journal Sentinel wrote of her performance. “But Charli XCX pulled it off on “Breaking Up.” Her “I Love It” was infinitely more animated than when Icona Pop played it on the same Lola stage two years ago … And then, when it came time for Charli’s own hit, “Boom Clap,” the boom of the beats sent swarms of dragonflies into a dizzying flurry over thousands of clapping hands.” At age 23, the English singer/songwriter has garnered a lot of success for other popular musicians, while making a strong statement with her own ability. Charli XCX is the creator of Icona Pop’s “I Love It” and Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy,” both of which her voice and personality were also featured in. In 2014, her single “Boom Clap” became a hit in multiple countries and was a preview of the talent that can be heard on her latest album, Sucker, which she is promoting on her recent tour. She will be joined by the American indie pop group Bleachers, a band-to-watch directed by frontman Jack Antonoff, and Borns, another new, impressive talent, will open the show.
