Advertising Sale and Office Assistant

Oklahoma Magazine seeks an energetic and outgoing individual to sell display advertising and perform various office duties. Only local candidates accepted for the position.

Duties and skills include but are not limited to:

  • Direct, non-commissioned selling display advertising both phone and email
  • Event space selling and planning
  • Compose and write emails to prospective advertisers and agencies
  • Consistent follow-up emails and phone calls to leads
  • Collection of past due accounts
  • Help maintain advertising email inbox
  • Help fulfill client requests
  • Assist with client advertisements and trafficking
  • Assist with subscriber requests and back issue requests
  • General office tasks as needed

Required Experience 

  • 4 Year college degree required
  • Proficient with both Mac and PC

Freelance Writer

Oklahoma Magazine seeks an experienced candidate to join the staff as a freelance writer. 

Responsibilities include phone interviews with sources, occasional interview scheduling, reporting progress to the managing editor and writing on a deadline.

The ideal candidate is comfortable with deadlines, works independently and has experience with writing both short- and long-form articles (anywhere from 250 words to 2,400 words). 

Excellent written communication skills are required, as well as a strong understanding of AP style. Candidates should have a BA in English, journalism or another relevant field, along with three or more years of experience in the field.

Freelance Photographer

Oklahoma Magazine seeks a freelance photographer in Oklahoma City or the surrounding metropolitan area. This individual will photograph a variety of subjects for editorial in the monthly editions, including people, action, ambiance, interiors, exteriors, food and more.

Required skills/assets:

  • 3+ years of professional photography experience
  • Comprehensive portfolio to review
  • Digital camera and lighting equipment
  • Reliable transportation

Editorial Staff

Oklahoma Magazine is seeking an energetic, deadline-oriented individual to join the editorial team. This full-time position reports to the managing editor and to the publisher and the president of Oklahoma Magazine. The candidate will work proactively with other members of the editorial staff, preparing the monthly magazine’s content in a fast-paced environment.  LOCAL CANDIDATES ONLY.

Duties of the editorial staff include, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing the development of monthly editorial content
  • Ensuring that all editorial and photography assignments are made and returned on requested deadlines while utilizing editorial management software
  • Communicating daily with freelance writers and photographers
  • Fact checking all editorial content
  • Sharing responsibility with the other members of editorial staff for writing, editing and formatting content
  • Attending selected events as a representative of Oklahoma Magazine
  • Assisting with the planning and execution of special events, office promotions and marketing
  • Assisting the advertising department with writing and editing copy for marketing materials and native advertising
  • Assisting in the preparation of ad layout
  • You will be required to work one weekend a month

Editorial staff required skills:

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication
  • Excellent proofreading skills
  • Organization, assertiveness, comfort with deadlines
  • Familiarity with Tulsa, Oklahoma City, surrounding communities and the state as a whole
  • Discretion
  • Ability to work both independently and with a team under minimal supervision

Required education and experience:

  • BA in Journalism, English or other relevant field
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram)
  • Familiarity with AP style
  • A minimum of 3-5 years magazine, publishing, public relations or ad agency experience
  • Knowledge of Mac OS, MS Office, InDesign and DropBox
