Meet some of the artists who are part of the this year’s New Genre Arts Festival on Friday and Saturday at Living Arts of Tulsa. Celebrating 22 years, the annual New Genre Arts Festival continues to impress with innovative, experimental, non-traditional artworks that “push the limits of traditional media while incorporating the new media made possible by today’s technologies,” says Living Arts’ website. Each year, new artists cast fresh perspectives on the growing and shifting art and technology landscape, allowing onlookers to experience art’s exciting evolution. This progressive showcase is extremely important to our understanding of the art world. Progress transforms and grows genres and creates new artistic avenues, whose exploration creates opportunities, collaboration, education and what all artists seek: growth, expansion and new perspectives. With the New Genre Arts Festival, Living Arts continues to fulfill its goals: To bring outside artists and works to Tulsa who are pushing their media to its limit and to present opportunities and challenges for local artists to develop and present new, exploratory works which are not normally seen in Tulsa. Artworks included in this year’s festival include Surfacing, a multimedia performance by Holdcombe Waller on March 6 and 7 at 8 p.m. at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center; The You and The I installation by Micaela De Vivero; Wundrian, an installation by JP Morrison Lans; Thuy & Rice, a performance, video and installation piece by Anh-Thuy Ngyuyen; and Drought: A Landscape Within, an installation by Ashli Ringgold.
