Twitter’s announcement that the company would be discontinuing its Vine mobile app in the coming months came as no surprise to Trey Kennedy, the Oklahoma social media star with 2.6 million followers on the social media platform.
“It’s a bummer that Vine is coming to an end, obviously,” he said. “It’s brought me a lot of opportunities and changed my life in several ways, so I’m grateful. However, I did see this coming. About a year ago, you could notice a sizeable decrease in engagement on Vine, and I was hearing that brands were inquiring less and less about advertising on Vine. So that’s when I decided to focus my efforts elsewhere. In early 2016, I began trying to grow my Facebook and Instagram pages.”
Kennedy said he would be surprised if Twitter didn’t adopt Vine’s format of short, looping videos on the company’s platform somehow, but is disappointed by the app’s demise.
“It’s a shame that 2.6 million follower platform I built will disappear, but I’m still lucky to have had it and to have started followings elsewhere,” he said.
