In 1937, John Steinbeck, a Nobel Prize-winning author, published Of Mice and Men, a story about George Milton and Lennie Smalls’ struggles as migrant workers during the late ‘20s, ‘30s Depression era and their dreams of owning their own farm. In 1969, Carlisle Floyd, an American composer, wrote a three-act opera piece inspired by Steinbeck’s novel, a highly celebrated piece of American literature, and it was first performed in 1970. This weekend, the Tulsa Opera, who believes strongly in American and English language opera, presents Of Mice and Men on a Tulsa Performing Arts Center stage.
