Their names suggest nostalgic days a la It’s a Wonderful Life, with wintry revelry on the town square as the neon-lit outline of a cigar store Indian blinks to beckon customers. Lucky for us, Sleigh Bells and Neon Indian are two of the hottest bands on the music scene today, and their double-billed show at Cain’s Ballroom on June 7 heralds the summer ahead. Derek E. Miller and Alexis Krauss are Sleigh Bells. They met when he served Krauss and her mother at a New York City restaurant in 2008. Their first album, Treats, has the attention of the recording industry curious about noise pop, an intense mash of Miller’s hardcore punk and Krauss’ Motown and pop-inspired vocals. Neon Indian is an in-demand act, but the band – including its charismatic lead singer Alan Palomo – have been on tour since the release of 2009’s Psychic Chasms and even found time to work on a project with the Flaming Lips.
