Friday, Aug. 30, 7 p.m.
When you hear a Western swing song, you've gotta dance. The genre where jazz met up with country string bands some time in the 1920s or ‘30s was made popular by the likes of Bob Wills and other cowboy singers with a bent for toe-tapping fiddle music. Bands equipped with strings, horns and cowboy boots, like the Tulsa Playboys, keep the sound fresh today in towns like Tulsa – where Western swing truly came into its own – and beyond. Join the stir when the Tulsa Playboys plays the home of Western swing, Cain’s Ballroom, 423 N. Main St., on Friday, Aug. 30. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7-$10 at www.cainsballroom.com.
