Philbrook Museum of Art is known for bringing not only the artistic masterpieces of history and far off continents to a local audience. The institution is also synonymous with an expansive collection of Native American work from past and contemporary artists. Philbrook Downtown, 116 E. Brady St., Tulsa, puts the spotlight on Charles Loloma, the late Hopi founder of Lolomaware pottery who also made jewelry pieces that challenged ideas of Southwestern Native American jewelry. Blending traditional materials (silver, gold, turquoise) with unconventional stones and metals in designs deviating from standards such as the squash blossom design, Loloma created pieces startling in their construction and presentation. The exhibit Beauty Within includes his prints, drawings, ceramic pieces and jewelry. It opens Sunday, March 23, and runs through Sept. 7. For more, visit www.philbrook.org.
