Preforming some of the most loved classical pieces ever written, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields is dedicated to sharing its music with the world. “Whilst our heritage and roots are in the church of St Martin-in-the-Fields, London, our mission is to bring our unique interpretation of classical music to all parts of London, all parts of Britain, indeed all parts of the world,” says the academy’s website. The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields has tuned its musicians and instruments just right, and the orchestra, one of the top in the world, prides itself on working with extremely talented soloists and directors, hoping to bring fresh perspectives, sounds and talents to its shows. Having played in some of the most incredible concert halls in Europe and around the world, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields bring its talents to Edmond’s Armstrong Auditorium for a night of intimate sound. With them, Jeremy Denk, a talented pianist –the recipient of the 2013 MacArthur Fellowship and named Musical America’s 2014 Instrumental of the Year – will play the keys in a program of Bach and Stravinsky concerti. Talents that have been heard worldwide will be shared with an Edmond audience on Wednesday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $45. For more information, visit www.armstrongauditorium.org.

Thursday, March 5

Comedians Paula Bel, Tammy Pescatelli, Lynne Koplitz and April Macie will join Jenny McCarthy on The Joint stage at Hard Rock Tulsa Casino & Hotel on March 5. The edgy, hilarious, relevant and specifically scandalous humor of this all-female cast is sure to bring bellyaching, tear-jerking laughter to its viewers. McCarthy has filled the rolls of comedian, actress, host, author and activist during her long career in front of an audience. In television, she’s held roles on “Two and a Half Men,” “Just Shoot Me” and “The Drew Carey Show.” A NY Times Best Selling author, her books – all bringing laughter, light-heartedness and a need for awareness and attention to life’s ups and downs – include Belly Laughs, Baby Laughs, Life Laughs, Louder Than Words: A Mother’s Journey in Healing Autism and Mother Warriors: A nation of Parents Healing Autism Against All Odds. Above comedy, acting and writing, McCarthy is a proud mother to her son Evan, whose diagnosis of autism casted her into an activist role – one that effortlessly and eloquently paired with her ability to connect with others. McCarthy has a way of making people laugh through highs and lows, and now, she has taken the risqué side of life and laughter on tour with four other women who do just the same. Jenny McCarthy’s Dirty, Sexy, Funny is pure, scandalous fun. The show will begin at 8 p.m. For more information, visit www.hardrockcasinotulsa.com.

Last November, at the 48th Country Music Association (CMA) Awards, New Artist of the Year honors went to an up-and-coming talent, Brett Eldredge. Growing up a fan of music, Eldredge enjoyed the storytelling and performing associated with singing and began tuning his music to the big voices of his idols like Ray Charles, Ronnie Dunn and Frank Sinatra. Moving to Nashville after college, he realized playing the guitar would land him in the pool where other artists of his genre and talents tread. As his ability on the guitar strengthened, pairing with his potent voice and completing the package, Eldredge found growing fame. His recent award brings added clarity to the evident success path this man is on: His debut album, Bring You Back, was released in August of 2013, his latest single “Mean To Me” continues rising on the charts, another single, “Beat Of The Music,” won Eldredge Song of the Year at the 2014 American Country Countdown (ACC) Awards, starting in May, he will be an opening act for Darius Rucker’s 2015 Southern Style tour, and continuing through March and April, Eldredge and his sound tour the country, making a stop at Tulsa’s Cain’s Ballroom on March 5. The Southern sound of Alabama native Ryan Kinder will open the show at 8 p.m. For more information, visit www.cainsballroom.com.

From performing as an unpaid floor singer to being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003, more than 35 years tell the musical story of Elvis Costello. Performing and collaborating with many big names in the industry and having others reverberate the tunes and lyrics of his own music, Costello has a unique sound and image that spans genres and generations. He has graced stages with The Attractions, The Imposters and Steve Nieve. The likes of Paul McCartney, Bill Frisell and Roy Nathanson have joined Costello in collaboration. Johnny Cash, No Doubt, Alison Krauss and Dusty Springfield are among the voices that have covered his own. He has performed on stages around the world and worked with musical and artistic entities such as the Sydney Symphony, The Royal Danish Opera, The London Symphony Orchestra and The Miami City Ballet, working alongside choreographer Twyla Tharp. In the last 5 years, Costello has produced three albums: In 2009, he released his 29th studio album, Secret, Profane & Sugarcane, and in 2010, he released National Ransom, which was followed by appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and The Colbert Report. In 2013, Costello’s work with The Roots came to completion with Wise Up Ghost. His world-renowned sound will arrive in Tulsa at Cain’s Ballroom on Friday, March 6. The creative and talented sister duo, Larkin Poe, with an ancestral line tying them to Edgar Allen Poe, will start the show at 8 p.m. For more information, visit www.cainsballroom.com.

Friday, March 6

The Alzheimer’s Association brings together elegance and fun at its annual Memory Gala, this year marking its 20th anniversary. With more than 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease, this fundraiser is pivotal to the advancement of research and care of patients affected with the disease that the Alzheimer’s Association dedicates its resources to. Those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s don’t just lose their memories, but all functions that the brain controls – breathing, swallowing, walking – are taken hostage by the disease. Unfortunately, Alzheimer’s doesn’t just control the life of the affected, but affects the lives of their loved ones, who many times become full-time caregivers. Watching a loved one disappear while still present takes an immense toll, physically and emotionally. The Alzheimer’s Association combats this disease, with hopes to eliminate all the heart-ache, pain and loss it causes by eliminating the disease altogether. That’s the Big Picture. Sponsorship opportunities are available for the 2015 Memory Gala on Friday, March 6, at the Cox Business Center, 100 Civic Center, Tulsa, OK 74103. For more information, visit www.memorygala.com.

Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7

Meet some of the artists who are part of the this year’s New Genre Arts Festival on Friday and Saturday at Living Arts of Tulsa. Celebrating 22 years, the annual New Genre Arts Festival continues to impress with innovative, experimental, non-traditional artworks that “push the limits of traditional media while incorporating the new media made possible by today’s technologies,” says Living Arts’ website. Each year, new artists cast fresh perspectives on the growing and shifting art and technology landscape, allowing onlookers to experience art’s exciting evolution. This progressive showcase is extremely important to our understanding of the art world. Progress transforms and grows genres and creates new artistic avenues, whose exploration creates opportunities, collaboration, education and what all artists seek: growth, expansion and new perspectives. With the New Genre Arts Festival, Living Arts continues to fulfill its goals: To bring outside artists and works to Tulsa who are pushing their media to its limit and to present opportunities and challenges for local artists to develop and present new, exploratory works which are not normally seen in Tulsa. Artworks included in this year’s festival include Surfacing, a multimedia performance by Holdcombe Waller on March 6 and 7 at 8 p.m. at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center; The You and The I installation by Micaela De Vivero; Wundrian, an installation by JP Morrison Lans; Thuy & Rice, a performance, video and installation piece by Anh-Thuy Ngyuyen; and Drought: A Landscape Within, an installation by Ashli Ringgold. All installations run through April 23 at Living Arts, 307 East Brady Street in downtown Tulsa. For more information, visit www.livingarts.org.
