Not so long ago, people found themselves shuttling to downtown Tulsa once a year. It may be said that Tulsa International Mayfest helped sustain interest in the city hub before the urban revitalization bug of recent years took effect, for Tulsa’s Mayfest was about arts, culture, commerce and a focus on downtown’s treasured Art Deco architecture. Mayfest celebrates its 40th anniversary May 17-20, and with the nearby Blue Dome Arts Festival, founded in 2002, Tulsa once again reawakens its creative center to live music, fine art, artisan works, carvings, jewelry, dance and many more vendors from both near and far. The Blue Dome Arts Festival runs May 18-20 at Second Street and Elgin Avenue amongst a throng of new businesses. Mayfest is located along Main Street between Third and Sixth streets.
