Few practitioners within the classical strand of music receive a nickname that brings as much renown to its owners as the one on a birth certificate. Jon Kimura Parker, “Concerto Man” is lucky enough to have two names equally conveying the presence of a true master at the piano. Parker joins the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and conductor Joel Levine in The Heart of Romanticism, the second classics program of the 2011-2012 season scheduled for Oct. 15 at the Oklahoma City Civic Center Music Hall. The Canadian pianist reveals why he’s earned the acclaim of critics around the world in a program of Schumann’s Symphony No. 3, Rhenish, and Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3. The era in which beauty and art flourished synchronistic to one another returns under Parker’s sophisticated touch. www.okcphilharmonic.org
