Saturday, April 13-Sunday, April 14

At this very moment, your home could be a hazardous materials site, or more likely, you just have a lot of consumer products that shouldn’t be hauled to landfills. Those half-used cans of stain for the patio, old pool chemicals, too-dim fluorescent light bulbs, drained batteries, automotive fluids, old medications, bags of pesticide and household cleaners stacked in some corner of your abode have to go somewhere, but the toxins they contain make them unsuitable for the environment and regular disposal methods. Instead, take them to the Fairgrounds Household Pollutant Collection, at Expo Square’s Gate 7, 15th Street and Sandusky Avenue. From 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, and Sunday, April 14, the Metropolitan Environmental Trust will organize a drop-off to take these and other pollutants off your hands for proper disposal. The event is for residents of Tulsa County. Go to www.metrecycle.com to find a list of items that are accepted and those that are not. You’ll also find smart tips for the next time you purchase chemicals.
