Oklahoma’s performing arts organizations wave goodbye to the summer months with shows galore.
In Tulsa, start the month off with a beloved tradition: The Drunkard and the Olio, running every Saturday at Tulsa’s Spotlight Theater. Then, venture to Tulsa Opera’s Spotlight on Opera Series on Aug. 6, 7 and 14, with concerts and screenings at College Hill Presbyterian Church, Circle Cinema and the Laven Sowell Opera Center, respectively. Next, Theatre Tulsa takes on the harrowing yet inspiring The Diary of Anne Frank, running Aug. 14-23 at the Tulsa PAC. Stick around the venue for the TPAC rendition of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma!, sweeping through the plains until Aug. 16.
In OKC, you’ve got a mixed bag of options. Start with Lyric Theatre’s Sweeney Todd at the Civic Center, finishing out its run through Aug. 2. Then, circle back to the Civic for magician John Shack on Aug. 8, followed by two must-see musicals courtesy OKC Broadway: Hamilton, Aug. 11-23, and The Outsiders, Aug. 25-30. Lastly, you won’t want to miss Painted Sky Opera’s La Traviata, Aug. 14-23, also at the Civic.
