Friday, Aug. 1, 8 p.m.
The Queen of Rock, Wanda Jackson holds court Friday, Aug. 1, at Vanguard Music Hall, 222 N. Main St., in Tulsa. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009, Oklahoma-born Jackson made her first major impression on American music as a preteen with her own daily show on KLPR radio in Oklahoma City and later as a rockabilly recording artist touring with Elvis Presley in the 1950s. As the “sweet lady with the nasty voice,” whose gritty vocal style and hard rocking guitar shocked listeners, Jackson became the Queen of Rockabilly. After a life in music, Jackson has risen to become one of the most respected musical artists around. As the title of her 2011 album with Jack White makes clear, The Party Ain’t Over for Wanda Jackson. Special guest act Loaded Dice opens for Jackson. Show time is at 8 p.m., and doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets, $20-$50, are available at www.thevanguardtulsa.com.
