Tulsa Ballet Signature Series

shutterstock_69751540

Don’t miss this special closing program featuring three of Artistic Director Marcello Angelini’s favorite works, including:

  • Serenade | George Balanchine
  • Remansos | Nacho Duato
  • Infra | Wayne McGregor

Serenade is the first work Balanchine created in America, and it’s sweeping romanticism has made it a lasting and iconic classic.

Remansos is a playful and expressive contemporary ballet, with uncomplicated costumes that allow the focus to rest solely on the beauty of the dancers.

Infra, meaning “below” in Latin, is a glimpse of life beneath the surface of the city. This unforgettable ballet incorporates a large LED screen to project multi-media images along with the live performance. This is the Oklahoma premiere of this haunting, yet hopeful ballet. Infra features a live music performance by the Signature Symphony string quartet.

[dropcap]Tulsans[/dropcap] Jay Krottinger and Ryan Jude Tanner of Square 1 Theatrics, co-producers of the Broadway musical Waitress, have had their production nominated for four Tony Awards, including one for Best Musical.

Waitress cast members Jessie Mueller and Christopher Fitzgerald also received nominations for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical and Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical respectively, and Sara Bareilles received a nomination for Best Original Score and Lyrics written for the Theatre.

Square 1 Theatrics previously won a Tony Award for their Broadway revival of PIPPIN.

Waitress, based on the motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly, features Broadway’s first all-female creative team. It opened April 24 and has already announced a national tour, Tanner said.

13091970_1023576271067717_6556537785270287012_nKrottinger and Tanner started their company with Flipside: The Patti Page Story, which toured in Oklahoma before making an off-Broadway debut. The two were invited to co-produce PIPPIN while in New York scouting the Flipside venue, but have remained focused on Oklahoma as they’ve worked on their shows.

“That’s kind of the uniqueness of the story,” Tanner said. “Almost all of our investors come squarely from right here in Oklahoma.”

Tanner said he and Krottinger focus on thought-producing works that can help create change in the way people think and have longevity, allowing people to recoup their investments.

The Tony Awards will air on CBS at 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 12.

BØRNS

Fri, April 29th – Brady Theater

From bornsmusic.com – BØRNS, a Michigan native who spent time in New York before landing in his new home of Los Angeles, is a preternatural talent. He understands instinctively how to connect the intricacies of a melody to the sensual receptors in the human ear, and how to conjure up a song from its building blocks to reach the heavens. Working with producers Tommy English and Kennedy, in 2014 BØRNS released the Candy EP, a shot of sunny, sweet, sweeping adrenaline to the pop music landscape that put “10,000 Emerald Pools” and “Electric Love” on playlists across the world. In early 2015 BØRNS reunited with English and began work on an album, writing and recording in between the steadily growing live shows, and with the stage in mind. Enamored of and inspired by his new home on the west coast, BØRNS injected much of that sunshine vibe into the new music that would become his debut album Dopamine.
