Country singer Corey Smith has set records as an independent artist, but for his 10th album, he did things a little differently. While the Gettin’ Is Good released on June 9 by Sugar Hill records, marking the first time the popular touring artist has turned over the reins to a major country label, joining a list of other popular country singers. Signing with a label that is driven by music, and not by sales, seemed fitting for Smith. A year ago, he quit his job as a teacher to pursue music full time. During his pursuit, Smith found himself listening to Sugar Hill recording artist Darrell Scott’s Family Tree on repeat. Now fans can do the same with Smith’s While the Getting’ Is Good. See him live on Thursday, June 25 at Cain’s Ballroom. For more information, visit www.cainsballroom.com.

The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey present Legends, an experience the entire family will enjoy that will leave spectators amazed. Although the company focuses on tradition, Feld Entertainment, the company that owns the circus, made the decision to phase out elephants from its traveling circus performances, looking to place them in conservation by 2018. For more than a quarter of a century, Aerosmith has defined rock and roll music. The legendary rock band has sold more than 100 million albums, received countless awards and has garnered a diehard fan base worldwide. The band’s story begins in 1970 when lead singer Steven Tyler met guitarist Joe Perry working at an ice cream parlor. Soon after, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer joined the band and they headed to Boston. There, the band was discovered by Columbia Records in 1973 and released its first album. Because of Aerosmith’s bluesy sound, it received comparisons to The Rolling Stones, and with the group’s third album, Toys in the Attic, it emerged as a leader in the rock and roll industry. Showcasing its talent for creating hard rock, Aerosmith scored big with fans and critics with hits such as “Sweet Emotion” and “Walk this Way.” For more information, visit www.choctawcasinos.com.

Sunday, June 28

Hideway Pizza kicks off its free summer concert series with its first of four performances in downtown Bartlesville. To help debut the series, The Fabulous Mid Life Crisis band will perform from 6 to 8:30 p.m. outside the Hideaway Pizza on Johnstone Street.

“We’ll be closing down Johnstone street between Frank Phillips Boulevard and Second Street to set up the stage and the kids area, as well as a place to serve pizza and soft drinks, beer and water outside,” says Janie Harris, marketing director for Hideaway Pizza.

The concert series will welcome Oklahoma’s own Red Dirt Rangers to the stage on July 26, and although Hideaway has not yet announced who’ll be entertaining the crowd on Aug. 23 and Sept. 13, the dates are set, so pencil them into your calendar.

“The restaurant has been open now for just over a year, and we wanted to celebrate with the people of Bartlesville who have been so supportive of us. Hideaway has traditionally been known for the fun music that plays in our restaurants and what better way to celebrate than with great music?” Harris adds.
