In Third Eye Blind’s more-than-two decades in the music industry, its band-member lineup has ebbed and flowed, though its sound remained solid, as did its fan base. Today, Stephan Jenkins, lead vocals and guitar, and Brad Hargreaves, drums, are the only remaining members from its original cast. Their talents can be heard on the group’s fifth and latest album, Dopamine, which released in June, alongside Kryz Reid, lead guitar, Alex Kopp, keyboards and Alex LeCavalier, bass guitar. Earlier this summer, Third Eye Blind kicked off a U.S. tour with the Emo band Dashboard Confessional, who hadn’t played together as a group for more than five years – “News that’s likely to trigger some nostalgia from anyone who was a teenager around the turn of the millennium,” said Time in March. The frontman for the group, Chris Carrabba, shared his excitement in a Facebook video saying, “It’s been a while since you’ve heard anything from Dashboard Confessional, and I thought it might be time to change that.” After taking the stage in Pittsburgh, it seems the mash-up is well received, with both groups catering to their younger days while showing off their latest creations. “The band amped up the energy as they also belted out favorites like ‘Vindicated,’” the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said of Dashboard Confessional following the concert at Stage AE. “Third Eye Blind opened their set belting lyrics to ‘Graduate,’ immediately hooking the audience. … The group mixed old favorites like ‘Jumper’ and ‘How’s it Going to Be’ with songs off their new album, Dopamine.” On Tuesday, July 7, the nostalgia arrives in Oklahoma City as Third Eye Blind and Dashboard Confessional take The Zoo Amphitheatre stage.
