Dreamgirls is amongst the most sought after productions on Broadway. The musical originally premiered on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre in 1981 and closed in 1985 after over 1,000 performances. It starred Sheryl Lee Ralph, Jennifer Holliday, Loretta Devine, Ben Harney, Cleavant Derrick and Obba Babatundé. The soulful musical proved to be a star-making vehicle for several of its performers, in particular, Holliday, whose performance as Effie received significant praise. With a compelling storyline of the rise of three hopeful girls from Chicago, Dreamgirls has received six Tony Awards, including the Tony Award for Best Musical. It was later adapted into a motion picture in 2006 starring Jennifer Hudson, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, Anika Noni Rose, Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy, Danny Glover and Keith Robinson. Presented by Spinning Plates Productions, Dreamgirls In Concert wows at the Liddy Doenges Theatre at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center. Dreamgirls In Concert will feature the entire script and score of the original Broadway show, performed in a concert setting. Rebecca Ungerman will direct a company of more than a dozen talented Tulsa thespians, including Dionne White, LaToya Tillis, Briana Wright, Roderick Hudson and Nash Wayne McQuarter.
