99s Museum of Women Pilots

Oklahoma City
Founded: 1999
In 1929, a group of women pilots formed an organization that would help the advancement of their cause. They became known as the 99s, because there were 99 charter members of the organization. One of those, Amelia Earhart, was instrumental in the forming of the group, whose headquarters are located in Oklahoma City, as well as the organization’s first president. Sharing a building with the headquarters is the 99s Museum of Women Pilots, a space dedicated to the preservation of artifacts, papers and documents related to female aviators. Displays at the museum include items that belonged to Earhart, as well as exhibits on the World War II-era WASPs and Night Witches and pieces of planes from female pilots who have fought in modern wars.
