If you cross the finish line of this 5k race with flying colors, you may come out of it unrecognizable in Muppet-toned hues. Color Me Rad Oklahoma City is not an ordinary run. The trail courses through the Oklahoma State Fair Park grounds beginning at 9 a.m. July 14. Runners of all ages start out in clean, white T-shirts and clothes, but they don’t stay that way. Along the race path, Color Bomb Squad volunteers hurl handfuls of colored (and nontoxic) cornstarch at runners. Sound familiar? The bombardment of color powders is an idea borrowed from the Hindi festival of colors known as Holi. Village and city squares are generously dusted in pinks, purples, greens, blues and oranges for tradition and celebration. Color Me Rad races are everywhere this year. Races in Philadelphia, Connecticut and Utah sold out. Oklahoma City’s race may be next. Go online to www.colormerad.com to learn more and register.
