Sat., May 21 at the OKC Civic Center Music Hall

From okcciviccenter.org: America’s Band, The Beach Boys, featuring Mike Love and Bruce Johnston, will make a stop in Oklahoma City as part of their Summer Tour Kick Off to help raise money for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma “Food for Kids” program. All net proceeds raised from this show will be donated to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. Guest staring, with The Beach Boys, will be Surf Rock Icon Dean Torrence of “Jan and Dean” fame.

The Beach Boys signed with Capitol Records in July 1962 and released their first album, Surfin’ Safari, that same year. The album spent 37 weeks on the Billboard chart, launching the young group known for its shimmering vocal harmonies and relaxed California style into international stardom. The Wilson/Love collaboration resulted in many huge international chart hits, and under Brian Wilson’s musical leadership, the band’ initial surf-rock focus was soon broadened to include many other themes, helping make The Beach Boys America’s preeminent band of the 1960s.

Impressively, The Beach Boys continue to hold Billboard / Nielsen SoundScan’s record as the top-selling American band for albums and singles, and they are also the American group with the most Billboard Top 40 chart hits (36). ‘Sounds of Summer: The Very Best Of The Beach Boys’ has achieved triple-Platinum sales status and ‘The SMiLE Sessions,’ released to worldwide critical acclaim in November, has been heralded as 2011’s #1 Reissue of the Year by Rolling Stone magazine.

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and recipients of The Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement GRAMMY Award, The Beach Boys are a beloved American institution that remains iconic around the world.

Hop Jam

Sun., May 22 in downtown Tulsa

From thehopjam.com: We’re excited to announce the 3rd annual Hop Jam Craft Beer and Music Festival on Sunday May 22nd. After record attendance for two years running, the celebrated downtown festival will again take place in Tulsa’s thriving Brady Arts District, and we’re focused on providing a richer experience for you, with a new 2nd stage, family activities and double last year’s attending breweries. Event tickets are available now for purchase here.

More than 60 breweries will be on site, representing 20+ states and 10+ countries. The diverse craft offering reflects our mission to feature a wide variety of breweries, while also establishing a platform for new craft breweries to enter the Oklahoma market for the first time, helping to draw attention to the thriving local scene.

The main stage will be headlined by a dynamic live performance from Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, as well as Albert Hammond Jr., X Ambassadors, Tulsa’s own John Moreland, Chase Kerby + The Villains and more. HANSON will continue to curate and present the main stage music lineup.

We’re also hoping to create a richer event experience by offering a broader ticket selection this year. New premium Craft Beer VIP tickets include even earlier access, special Hop Talks featuring a panel of craft brewers, and access to a special indoor space including all day food and beverages. Premium Hop Jam Music VIP tickets include reserved seating in the festival main stage area, with all day food and beverages in an indoor space available to all ages.

We’re excited to bring back the hugely popular state-wide opening band contest in partnership with the Tulsa World, which will provide an opportunity for an Oklahoma artist to perform the opening set on the festival main stage. We’ve also added a new Park Stage at Guthrie Green, so we can extend more opportunities for local bands – the top runners in the contest will win the chance to perform on that second stage.

Our site is expanding dramatically, with the Main Street-centered craft beer area doubling in size, and also adding a beer garden and games lawn. The all-ages area of the festival is expanding to encompass the Guthrie Green, to provide space for more family oriented activities and entertainment.

We are excited to partner with you again to raise funds to support the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma through the raffle of a custom-made Hop Guitar, crafted after the festival logo, and signed by brewers and artists taking part in the event. The family activities and a special raffle in the Hop Jam Park area will also help support another Tulsa non-profit, Emergency Infant Services, who work to provide for the needs of infants and children whose families are in crisis.

Top Girls is a 1982 play by Caryl Churchill. It is about a woman named Marlene, a career-driven woman who is only interested in women’s success in business. As the play unfolds we find Marlene has left her ‘poor’ life, and illegitimate child with her sister Joyce, in order to tread the path to ‘success’. The play is contemporary and examines the role of women in society and what being a successful woman means.

Disclosure

Fri., May 12 at The Criterion in OKC

From ticketmaster.com: With the 2013 release of their chart-topping debut album Settle, British electronic duo Disclosure became one of the most talked-about new acts of the year. Featuring numerous collaborators including Edward MacFarlane of Friendly Fires, Jamie Woon, Jessie Ware, and London Grammar, the album’s pop-oriented garage and house sound was both a critical and commercial success, debuting at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart. The record’s first three singles – “Latch (feat. Sam Smith)”, “White Noise (feat. AlunaGeorge)”, and “You & Me (feat. Eliza Doolittle)” – were among the year’s most ubiquitous club hits, all placing within the UK Top 20 and garnering the album a prestigious Mercury Prize nomination. Brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence grew up in Reigate, Surrey, England, making their debut as Disclosure in 2010 with the funky dubstep tracks “Offline Dexterity” and “Street Light Chronicle.” After following up with the Carnival EP in 2011, the brothers became increasingly sought out for remix work on the strength of their considerable production skills. In 2012, they picked up their first significant U.K. radio attention with the release of the “Tenderly”/”Flow” single and The Face EP, which featured their hugely popular remix of Jessie Ware’s “Running.” In 2013, Disclosure continued to build on their already-stellar reputation with a string of impressive live concerts, wowing ticket holders at the Glastonbury Festival in England before embarking on a critically-acclaimed world tour.

FILTER

Fri., May 13 at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa

From cainsballroom.com: Shoving a fist in the face of tradition has been Filter’s modus operandi since the release of their self-produced debut album, Short Bus. The album’s rough-around-the-edges production consisted of inebriated answering machine samples, lavish bass lines, and jagged guitars set to a backdrop of drum machines punctuated by the unfurling of Richard Patrick’s vocal prowess and signature roar. Patrick, Filter’s magnetic, profoundly intelligent nucleus and frontman jubilantly admits that his creative process is unorthodox, whether he’s staring down and conquering new technology or coalescing with new bandmate and co-conspirator Jonny Radtke on Filter’s current release, The Sun Comes Out Tonight.
